When you think of a crowded and cosmopolitan city like New York, you probably don’t imagine having a quiet and serene place to watch the sunset. But New York City is home to some of the most beautiful views in the world. There’s just something about the colors bouncing off the skyscrapers that makes New York City sunsets something everyone must experience at least once.

But where is the best place to see the sunset in New York City? Whether you prefer the views from the High Line, the crowds in DUMBO, or you only wait for Manhattanhenge to hit, you likely have a favorite spot for when the sun goes down.

I’ve always been a sunset person, and I always take advantage of any opportunity to watch the sun go down. For this list item, I decided to go to a place named for sunsets - Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Sunset Park is the namesake for the surrounding Brooklyn neighborhood, and it’s just a few minutes from the 45th Street subway stop. Up a few sets of stairs to the highest part of the park, and you’re treated to some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline. You can also see some of the surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods, the Statue of Liberty, and parts of Staten Island.

It’s during sunset that Sunset Park truly shines. At its highest point, Sunset Park gives you unobstructed views of those gorgeous colors. Whether you want the perfect Instagram shot (no judgement here), or you just want to sit and soak it all up, this is the place to go.

On the long list of places to watch the sunset in New York City, Sunset Park is definitely worth a spot. The park has walkways, benches, and some of the most breathtaking sights of the city. Just don’t forget to sit back and enjoy the view.
