I'm not one of those people who can stream an entire season of something on Netflix in one sitting. The few times I've done it (mostly for Orange is the New Black), by the time I get 3/4 of the way through the show, I have zero interest in what's going on, and I want to stop watching. So when I logged onto Netflix on Friday and saw that there was a new original series based on one of the worst books ever, I automatically refused to watch it.
I first heard about this book on a Buzzfeed list of must read books. It's really, really overrated. The characters are one dimensional, the main character is kind of dramatic, and the final twist is super lame and stupid.
If you haven't heard about the story yet, the gist is this: A teenage girl named Hannah has committed suicide. She recorded 13 tapes detailing the reasons why she did what she did. Each tape involves a different person, and each episode is a different tape. You follow the story through the eyes of Clay (this dude above), and you get to meet all of the other players. I was bored and gave the show a shot, and it's SO GOOD. I've told pretty much everyone I know that they need to watch it, and I spent the weekend finishing it as fast as possible.
The best part (to me) is the music. Have you ever seen a scene in a movie or TV show and had the song playing perfectly fit that moment? That's pretty much every scene in 13 Reasons Why. From the first slow song two of the characters dance to ("The Night We Met" by Lord Huron) to one of the biggest "omg" moments ("Run Boy Run" by Woodkid), it's one of those perfect soundtracks that I'm equally as obsessed with.
Here's some of my favorite songs from the show. If you have Netflix, go check it out! If you've already watched it, what do you think?
