Before I write about my (extremely) short trip to NYC, I'd like to take this time to announce the big news of my year.
Cookie and I are moving to New York!
There are a bunch of personal and professional reasons why I'm making this move, but I'm super excited about it. Jacksonville and I have never really "fit," so this is coming at a perfect time in my life. I'm ready for a (major) change, but I'm really terrified about everything! If anyone has any moving advice, please comment and help me out!
Of course, before I can move, I had to find a place. I planned this trip super spur of the moment, and fortunately I was able to find a semi-decent deal (thanks Expedia!) on airfare to get up there.
My trip started right after work on Friday. Since my flight was delayed more than an hour (thanks Delta!), I went to the airport Chili's for a beer and some chips and salsa. Since I booked the flight so late, I ended up being in one of the last few rows, which made for some really miserable turbulance. I downloaded a book and spent the flight reading.
This trip was for one purpose - find a place to live. I was only really looking in Astoria and Forest Hills, since I know both of the areas. For many reasons, I ended up sticking with Forest Hills in my search, and I found a great place online. It looks like I'll end up living there, and I'm both excited and scared to have roommates for the first time ever!
After securing a place to live, I went out to Long Island to join my friend Casey for a trip to our college diner - Colony Diner!
I had my favorite unhealthy breakfast - 2 eggs, corned beef hash, and french fries. I value my health, as you can see.
We drove over to the grocery store so I could finally get my hands on holiday popems. They don't sell these here in Florida, and I haven't been able to pick them up on my last few trips up, so I was super excited to cure my sugar craving. I brought a box to work, and my coworkers are now hooked.
I made my way back to the city and met up with my friend Justin at his apartment. After a few hours of watching Vanderpump Rules (new addiction, judge all you want), I went back to Forest Hills to grab some food and go back to my friend Melissa's place for the night.
I went to Gloria Pizza for a Sicilian and grandma slice - and my first garlic knot in about 5 years! I'll have to keep running when I move, or all of this food is going to leave its mark.
I got back to Melissa's, and went to sleep for my 8:00 a.m. flight. This was the shortest trip I've ever taken, but I'm thrilled that everything worked out. Now I have one month to sort out my life down here before this becomes a NY blog!
