First off, hello from Forest Hills! I'm all moved in and as of 12 hours ago, I finally have the internet in my new place! I've been slacking on the posts because it's hard to blog when you have no WiFi. Before I get to Queens (in a later post), I wanted to post about my last week of goodbyes in Jacksonville!
I had my goodbye party over at Dahlia's Pour House, which at one time was our hangout spot at least once a week. I'll definitely miss having affordable beers...
The last week in Jacksonville was just a big mishmash of packing, going out to eat, and saying goodbye to my friends. Cookie wanted to make sure she was packed up for the drive.
My last Monday in the Jacksonville office meant my last chance for Sweeto Burrito. I had the All American (burger and fries, stuffed in a burrito).
Thursday was my last full day of work. My coworkers hosted a surprise party for me, and they got Cookie a new hoodie for winter walks. After work, I hosted a mini baking seminar with my friends David and Cody so that they could learn how to bake cupcakes.
We made Taralynn's dark chocolate whiskey cupcakes!
Afterwards, Cody and I went to Chomp Chomp for my last chance at a Westsider.
We started off with the disco fries - wedge fries with pulled pork and cojita cheese.
This is the one food I'll miss the most in Jax - buffalo chicken sandwich, with blue cheese and celery slaw on top. It's been my favorite thing for almost two years now. I'll have to find a way to replicate it up north...
Friday was my last half day, so naturally I had to bake. These were Reese's stuffed brownies, with extra peanut butter.
I also picked up some bagels to thank them for the party/being awesome over the years. Of course, I think I have better bagels where I am now...
I picked up my friend Casey from the airport, and we met up with Cody to get lunch at Maple Street. This place has some of the best biscuits ever, so naturally I had to stop there before leaving. I had the loaded goat (biscuit, fried chicken, goat cheese), with pepper jelly. I also ordered the mac and cheese on the side, since I've heard people raving about it for years and figured "might as well" before I leave.
After packing up the truck and having one last dinner with my family, Casey and I went to BREW for goodbye drinks with Cody and David.
One last selfie...
We hit the road Saturday afternoon. The goal was to get to NY mid morning on Sunday to make the unloading/truck drop off as easy as possible.
If no one has ever told you - I-95 is miserable. The ride took us about 16.5 hours to complete, and we made it through by 9:30 AM on Sunday. I'm looking forward to never doing that again. It took me a few days, but I'm pretty much all settled in!
